“Heavy Rain” Actor steps into Animation Business.
Convergence Consultancy, Motives in Movement (MiM) has teamed up with two French companies: cutting edge facial capture technology company, Dynamixyz, and A.D.N. provider of digital double representation to actors, and services to producers. Pascal Langlois (who played Ethan Mars, in Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain) heads MiM, whilst continuing his career as an Actor in Toronto.
“Heavy Rain opened up my eyes to the creative potential behind digital capture, and therefore also made me aware of the challenges actors and animators face over sharing authorship. Appearance, Behaviour and Voice can now all be split from the source performance with increasing ease and quality. Working with Dynamixyz’s progressive technology, whilst protecting the craft of acting I value so much with A.D.N, makes sense if I am to be useful participant in convergence. ”
Motives in Movement, moved to Toronto from London, England in 2011. MiM is a cross-discipline consultancy, dedicated to the improvement of dramatic content in video games and digital media and also works with companies that best support all aspects of creating high quality dramatic performances. MiM’s unique ability to draw on skill sets from both industries, offers game developers, film producers and animation software providers the next generation of convergent solutions.
Dynamixyz, is based in Rennes, France and was founded in April 2010. Dynamixyz specialises in high quality 3D face analysis and synthesis, and provides capture and animation products: Performer (Capture and Analysis), Director (Plugin and Real Time facial Animation) and Observer (webcam facial analysis). These can be easily-integrated into any platform, to satisfy the immediate need to develop statistical systems which can produce high quality, on-the-fly animations.
Agence de Doublures Numériques (Digital Doubles Agency), based in Paris, France, is a service company dedicated to the creation, management exploitation of the CGI representation of celebrities’ appearance and/or performance, for movie, advertising and video-game productions.
A.D.N. represents the Actor’s digital double, and “holds” it on their behalf, which is then available for multiple projects and applications, reducing capital outlay on capture processes and project overheads. This can avoid projects being stalled by lack of actor availability, prohibitive data capture costs, or expensive contractual confusion.
