Motives in Movement can provide targeted “convergence consultancy”. We work specifically in areas where traditional dramatic storytelling techniques and approaches, cross with mocap, animation and interactivity. We’ve worked extensively at a high level in TV, Film, Theatre, and games and new media. We think true convergence means an open minded approach, that old and new disciplines have to work together within the rules of the medium. We also believe that the best solutions improve quality but also make real efficiency savings.

Acting for Animators
Animators are storytellers too, albeit on a frame by frame basis. Whether using actor’s performances as source, or animating from ‘scratch’, understanding behavior from the character’s point of view can be invaluable. Knowing what’s logical behavior is not the same as knowing >> what’s the right behavior, which is often far more revealing and compelling.

Library Creation
MiM are unique creators of per project libraries. We work with you to establish, what you need, and how best to create and deliver it. Whether its within short cutscenes that set up the game play, repetitive actions or reactions that cannot be perceived as repetitive, or a full performance based facial behavior library, we have the experience and technique to help.

Capture Induction for Actors
Seasoned traditional actors, and ʻmocap actorsʼ used to providing broader physical performances, can struggle with the levels of subtlety and truth demanded by dramatic narrative performance capture. The stripped back nature of data capture means that false performances are actually easier to detect than in film. Motives in Movement can provide an induction workshop to ensure that no time is wasted because of an actorʼs unfamiliarity with the demands of this new media, and only the highest quality performance is captured.

Directing Actors
Actors and directors have a co-dependent relationship, that at its best can create the most compelling performances. Actors work in a wide variety of ways, and communication and collaboration is paramount. Whereas actors primarily concern themselves with their role in a narrative, a Director must balance the needs of the story, and ensure that each actorsʼ performance serves the whole, keeping everyone on the same page. Finally, all this must observe the challenges of gameplay and mechanics. Motives in Movement offers a range of training options to provide the firm foundations of one of the most rewarding relationships.
